Why did I decide to create this site?
To Brag?

Er, No!

I do have a specific reason for putting all this on the web!

If you haven't read my biography click here to learn more about Greg Myers.

I admit I had good fortune to spend most of my life as a DJ and entertainer and spent 10 years of it working at sea. I always had the yearning to travel and see the world. However, I have to put the fact that I lived this dream successfully for ten years down to some extraordinary good fortune in my favour!

I say this as there was little in the way of good resources around when I started, to show me how I could get into the cruise business. I remember hovering around the Cunard and P&O offices until I was asked to leave, knowing all paperwork I had filled in had been filed (in the garbage can).

I got my first cruise ship job by pure fluke. An agent who was introducing new acts to the entertainment agent hired by Cunard, happened to be one I had a recommendation with, from a last minute job I was never meant to do, but had filled in for a friend at the last moment. It probably would never have happened for me any other way. I think it was fate. It couldn't have been planned.

Even with good fortune, I was totally unprepared for those first long 4 months.

Perhaps the most amazing thing about being at sea is the new things you learn everyday. I made mistakes and learned as I went along. I know all too well how I would have benefited if there had been a good instruction book that could have allowed me to learn these lessons before I had started. There wasn't one that I discovered!

Amazingly, there isn't much around today that I've managed to find, despite the huge power of the world wide web. Few websites or e-books show you how to get your foot in the door, and none that I have found, exactly depict the reality of living out this dream. This is a dream which will not only broaden your mind and horizons for the rest of your life, but can also set you up for life. Had I known then, what I know now, it would have allowed me to retire, even though I was only in my early thirties!

Whilst one or two agency websites can offer a way into the business (I can only confidently tell you about one), the majority relieve you of cash with no guarantee of a job!  In some cases they will relieve you of a percentage of your earnings the whole time you are at sea!

It's time to put that right.

Ask yourself:

If I had the right guidence, would I not prefer to keep that percentage and apply for the post myself?

Even if this isn't always possible, it's worth finding out first! The right guidence will put you on the right track and can help you stay there, from the beginning until the day you decide to retire.

I think it's sad that there are so few resources on the internet that can help both potential cruise workers, and those already at sea, to succeed as well as to communicate with people with similar interests on other ships. It's time that all the people who are living this dream had a chance to enjoy this dream all together, and have fun along the way.

I have therefore decided to do something about it!

I created this site to help share all that I can offer and to beable to help those at sea share their experiences.
