Come Dancing

What type of dancing do you do?

If only the double left foot disco shuffle it may be best to save it for the crew bar but even then you may be good as a member of the cruise staff. Click here for more

In all seriousness dancing is a serious business on cruise ships and is responsible for a numerous amount of repeat custom. For this reason there are numerous posts to fill:

Different dance posts

  1. Dance instructors- Often a couple. They offer complimentary dance classes and perform dances on stage as well as dance of an evening in the ball room, with each other in demonstration and with otheer passengers throughout the evening. Dance instructors are often members of the cruise staff and perform social duties as well.  Pay is on par with most cruise staff but a private extra income can be made by offering private lessons which can be lucrative.
  2. Production Dancers- There are usually 4-8 dancers in the production shows hired by a production company. Dancers are often 18-22 years of age. Even though pay is not as good as some posts it is still an ideal way to see the world and have a fun career. Dancers are usually members of the cruise staff which means additional duties.
  3. Dance hosts- This often appeals to the maturer person who enjoys dancing and has more time on their hands than most. Dance hosts aren't paid directly and they have a lot of dancing to do, but they have a hugely discounted cruise with full passenger privilages. (You may have seen the satirical Movie featuring Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau called "Out to Sea". The two become dance hosts in an attempt to meet rich ladies, with hilarious consequences. You can buy it on DVD at 'Amazon' here or from your own store here.)

What to do next:

You need to know who to contact regarding your new position. A lot of dance instructors are now booked by cruise lines directly. Others are booked by entertainment agents and production companies. Quite simply, you need to ffind out who's booking for the ship that interests you.

I can help!

After working 10 years at sea in entertainment, I can give you the correct links for a small, one time nominal fee. I am not an agent and will not be the one offering you a job. I won't promise anyone will, but to get a job dancing at sea means getting in touch with the right people. I won't be charging a commission if you do land that dream position. Find out more here
